Sad to say, but adults continue to die in great numbers during heatwaves, often for not following such common sense. According to this article on Why People Die During Heat Waves, more people in the USA die of heatwaves than all other natural disasters combined!
Strangely, I have never seen a heat alert sign in Australia. But then, I do live in the far south which tends to have less ongoing heat through the summer!
I'll second the caution about heat. I've just returned from spending the day working construction on a Habitat house in 95 degree temperatures. We felt the heat while making great progress on the house.

Take care, Lesley. I hope this heat alert will soon be lifted.
Inside Cambodia
i guess the health department wants to make sure nobody would blame them for any unfortunate incidents.:p

It has been hot here lately. My post has to do with cooling down as well. :)
These kind of signs are pet peeves of mine too. Guess it's just "CYA" on the part of 'the authorities' ;>)
Hope you're keeping cool.
we had a similar notice up in our building

I like how the word "Sun" is capitalized and also "Sunscreen". VERY IMPORTANT WORDS!
It's true that the heat can be dangerous to many people, especially the elderly.
Tomorrow it's supposed to be 100-105 degrees F here in the Chicagoland area!

send a bit of that heat our way will you
It's sad, but many adults do need to be told what to do. Hmmm.
Ha! Yes, reminds of the packaging spiel on soup cans: "When heated, this soup is hot and can cause burns."
Thanks for hosting, Lesley!
remember the woman who sued for being burned by hot coffee? and won!!
