Good question Lesley. My school was built in 1915 and torn down in 1977. A new one was built on the same site. In the 1970's the Board Of Education went through a phase where it said down with the old and up with the new.

Not that old!

Many of our old schools tend to be "added on" rather than torn down! The sign for your school suggests it was built right at the beginning of free public education!

I think my first school was built around 1900 but my second school had it's origins in the 1700s.

That is a long time, for a school to last. I am not sure but I'd guess that my grade school was built in the 1930s. It is still standing, but has not been used as a school for decades. My junior high and high schools were torn down some time ago.

I guess I should say that my first school was built around 1953, although my high school was built around 1919 and mostly gutted and refurbished by the time I got there.

I'm not really sure, I don't live near it anymore. I do know it's still there.
